Growing up, some of my fondest memories are of the long, sun-drenched summers spent at an RV park in Conway, SC. Now, at 35, I often look back at those carefree days of my youth, when the world seemed just a bit brighter, and the days stretched endlessly ahead.

I was about 10 years old when my parents decided that experiencing RV life in South Carolina would be our new family tradition. My father had just acquired a modest but cozy RV, and eager to break it in, he planned our first trip to a well-recommended RV park right in the heart of Conway, SC.

The drive to the park was an adventure in itself. We passed through the lush landscapes of South Carolina, with its sprawling fields and towering pines, the scenery a vivid tapestry that seemed to celebrate our journey. As we neared Conway, SC, the anticipation built up inside me like a balloon ready to burst.

Night time RV life

Arriving at the RV park was like entering a new realm. Set against a backdrop of South Carolina’s serene beauty, the park was a bustling community of like-minded travelers, each with their own stories and journeys. Our spot was tucked away in a quiet corner, surrounded by trees that whispered secrets of the old South.

Those days were filled with endless activities. Mornings began with the scent of bacon sizzling on an open grill, the sound of laughter carrying through the air. My parents loved the RV life, reveling in the simplicity and the closeness it brought us. We explored every corner of Conway, SC, from its historic downtown to the gentle riverbanks where fishermen seemed as permanent as the river itself.

Each day, we ventured out from our RV base to experience all that South Carolina had to offer. We took long walks along nature trails, the canopy above us alive with the sounds of wildlife. In the afternoons, we'd visit the local markets in Conway, SC, where the friendly faces of vendors became familiar sights. We’d return with fresh fruits and local delicacies, our hands always full.

The evenings were the best part of our RV life. As the sun set over Conway, SC, painting the sky with strokes of pink and orange, we'd gather around a crackling fire. My parents would share stories of their youth, while I listened, wide-eyed, my imagination fueled by the tales of their adventures. Those nights under the starlit sky of South Carolina were magical, the kind of magic that only childhood can truly appreciate.

As the vacation drew to a close, I remember feeling a profound sense of sadness, mixed with the deep contentment of having made unforgettable memories. The RV park in Conway, SC, had become a part of our family story, a chapter that I would revisit often in my mind.

Now, looking back, I realize how those summers in South Carolina shaped me. The RV life taught me about the joy of discovery and the value of simplicity. It showed me how to appreciate the moment, whether it was watching a sunset over Conway, SC, or enjoying a quiet morning with my family.

Returning to that RV park in Conway, SC, years later, the memories flood back with vivid clarity. The laughter, the adventures, and the serene beauty of South Carolina stay with me, a gentle reminder of those golden days of youth. It’s a reminder of the joy that simple pleasures can bring, and the timeless appeal of RV life in the heart of South Carolina.

This year I am taking my family to start the same adventure I loved as a kid. While I don't remember what the park we went to, and my parents were not able to pass that information on to me, I have found a cozy RV park that seems to have the same type of vibe that I remember back then. Maybe even better. With a cool water feature for the kids, pool for mom to lay by and plenty of spaces easy to get in and out of. I can't wait to get on the road and stay there. We will be making reservations in August, and if anyone wants to come out and say hi, just look for the trailer with the big pink pig on the back and a family of happy faces sitting outside enjoying our newly made memories.
